m2d2_sm.jpgPlease join us for the May M2D2 meeting at Noon on Monday, May 18, 2009, to welcome Mr. Peter Schmidt, a project manager with over 20 years of experience in government, commercial, and international projects, who will be speaking on "Project Portfolio Management in a Time of Change:  Differing Perspectives from Government and Commercial Practice." We will be meeting in the Cafeteria Conference Room of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (South Building), 1400 Independence Avenue SW, Washington, DC 20250. Sign-in and networking begin at 11:30 AM, and the presentation begins at 12:00 Noon.

Synopsis:

In this presentation and discussion, we will examine, contrast, and find common ground in some of the evolving approaches to government and commercial practice in project portfolio management (PPM).  This session will aim at presenting some new perspectives and foster an interesting question and answer session for all participants. Questions to be addressed include the following:

  • How are changes in the political and economic climate affecting the project portfolio?
  • What are the impacts of increased risk and uncertainty on the delivery of your major capital projects?
  • How will shifting budgets and changing approaches to budget development alter the way a portfolio manager deals with the selection, control and evaluation of the project portfolio?
