August 2016 Dinner Meeting Recap

Chapter President Kwema Ledbetter provided a brief update on the State of the Chapter. The presentation, which will be posted on the web site, enumerated PMISSC’s busy and successful year to date, and remaining goals for the year. Check it out and be amazed and proud of your Chapter!

Marcus Parker, immediate PMISSC Past President and Chapter Trustee, gave an inspiring presentation as always at the August Dinner meeting! Called “Leading Teams with a Common Touch: How is Your Day Going?” the session was designed to help any leader appreciate their team members by asking two insightful questions- “How is your day going?” and “Please-tell me what’s making your day that way?” The associated response dialog process between leader-team member is used to assess team members general well-being against the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Maslow hierarchy of needs speaks to the well-being of employees as they traverse the levels from Physiological, Safety, Belonging, Esteem, and Self Actualization.

Match your staff person's mood and energy level and you'll see the communication between you improve drastically. He wrapped up his talk with an interactive exercise which had the participants mirror their partner's mood. Everyone found it very enlightening! Marcus went on to suggest reading a book called “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking” by Susan Cain that willhelp extroverts understand and appreciate introverts.

Join us at September’s Dinner meeting for Kevin Fowler’s presentation, “Using MS Project Online for Portfolio Management and Strategy Implementation!” Using examples, it will demonstrate, how MS Project Online can help organizations to assess their current portfolio management maturity level.

September 8 - Team Building in a Matrixed Environment, with Karen Davey-Winter

September 8, 2010 (Wednesday evening): Karen Davey-Winter - Team-Building in a Matrixed Environment

Karen Davey-WinterTeam structures, even in well-ordered, functionally-structured organizations, are inherently complex. Today's matrixed organizations make that complexity even greater, resulting in multiple loyalties among matrix project team members, and if the team is not cohesive, these divided loyalties can be harmful to the success of the project.

Mark your calendars, and plan to join us for our September 8, 2010 monthly PMISSC meeting, featuring Karen Davey-Winter of Work Life Coaching, who will be speaking about Team Building in a Matrix Environment.

Location: Blair Mansion Inn, 7711 Eastern Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20912.

Cost will be $35 for payment in advance, $40 at the door, and the event will be worth 1.5 PDUs. Punch the date into your Blackberries and your Outlook Calendars, and plan to join us for a great evening as we sort out the tangled web of building teams in a matrixed project management environment.
