Title: How to Resolve Conflicts When You Have No Authority
Speaker: Margarethe DeVeaux
There are various ways to resolve conflicts. When the employees report to a project manager, that PM has authority over them. But what happens when the PM has no authority. What does one do when the client or the project sponsor is creating the conflict?
The speaker will present a tool that will assist project managers in knowing what questions to ask, so they know when and how to apply the following conflict resolution techniques: (1) Withdraw/Avoid, (2) Smooth/Accommodate, (3) Compromise/Reconcile, (4) Force/Direct, and/or (5) Collaborate/Problem Solve.
As part of the session, the speaker will discuss how the type of organization, (e.g. matrixed, agile) as well as the project methodology, can also impact the technique(s) used.
