Description: Trauma is expensive. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is estimated to have cost the 2018 US economy $232.2 billion (Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, April 25, 2022). Pandemic and post-pandemic costs have undoubtedly increased that annual measure. Nor need you be a FEMA or USAID disaster relief manager to experience trauma. Your projects have unfailingly reflected subtle costs of trauma: high absenteeism, loss of morale and good will, infighting, unplanned team member departures, avoidable delays, even sabotage. A trauma-informed project manager can learn to recognize workplace signs of trauma. Early and appropriate response can mitigate and avoid the downward spiral typical of trauma-based behaviors.

membership needs first. Align with the core values and principles of Project Management Institute (PMI) while acting in accordance with emotional intelligence and servant leadership models. I will need lots of support from the PMISSC membership that currently stands around 1300 strong! My goals for 2024 are listed below
- Provide the 2024 PMISSC Virtual Symposium in June.
- Attract and fill all board PMISSC VP and Director roles with people who are high character team players, and have backups for each.
- Provide professional mentoring to chapter members.
- Listen to the needs of the PMISSC Membership.
- Provide Quality PDU Content PMI quickly and easily to PMISSC Membership.
- Provide professional knowledge information quickly and easily.
- Provide a holistically creative and safe environment for membership.
- Provide study group support for those preparing for any PMI certification exam. BTW - My current focus is the DASM micro-certification.
- Engage appropriately with the other local chapters.
- Provide a pathway to Toastmaster engagement.

- PMI has activated the AI Resource Center which has a 5 PDU online course (Generative AI Overview for Project Managers) available.
- PMIWDC has created a Women in Leadership Community of Interest, which held its inaugural event on 24 October.
- Advisicon, a PMI Registered Education Provider, and a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, will present 8 November seminar on Project Online is Sunsetting: How to Prepare for the Future of Project Technology.
- PMIWDC’s Cloud and Cybersecurity Community will present a 9 November lunchtime hybrid speaker on Demystifying AI Projects - Lessons from the Practioners.
- PMISSC will hold its next Past Presidents’ Town Hall on 16 November with 1.5 PDU in Power Skills. The 20 September Town Hall with Rusty Richards and the 19 October Town Hall with Kwema Ledbetter, Marcus Parker and Adam Nelson are available on video.
- PMISSC will hold its Annual Membership Meeting virtually on 13 December.
- PMIWDC’s Cloud and Cybersecurity Community will host a 14 December in-person holiday event.
March 2024 Monthly Meeting Recap
At the PMISSC October meeting, the last in-person meeting of the year which was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Silver Spring, Hector Del Castillo, CEO of Bold PM, discussed "how AI is transforming project management".

PMISSC October Town Hall Meeting Recap

10th Annual D.C. Regional PMDoS - Save the Date!

PMI Global Summit 2023
Four of our members represented the Silver Spring Chapter at the PMI Global Summit, October 26th to the 28th. Over 3000 project management professionals descended on Atlanta, GA for three full days of interactive PM courses in theory, case studies, and new tools coming to the market. Major themes discussed included bringing training home to our workplaces and the future of AI in project management. All the courses were recorded and will be available online for PDUs at https://pmiglobalsummit.gcs-web.com/.

PMI Hardship Provision
In these current economic times, the Project Management Institute recognizes that some of its members will find themselves in changed financial circumstances. To that end, PMI would like to remind members about its hardship provision that is available to qualifying members in good standing.
PMI’s hardship provision is available to any member who becomes unemployed. In order to qualify, a member must be in good standing and must have paid dues for at least three previous continuous years.
Under this provision, a member is granted a waiver for one year of PMI membership dues and one year of dues for membership in any one chapter of which the applicant was a member the previous year. The hardship provision may be granted for a maximum of two years for each member.
To apply for a hardship provision, please send an e-mail to [email protected] and explain the nature of your hardship. Please be sure to include a copy of your renewal invoice (if possible).
