Title: Progressive IT Project Portfolio Management Improvement

Speaker: John P Jernovics Jr.

In early 2014, the Vendor Management Office (VMO) within the Department of State Information Management Bureau recognized that better controls needed to be put in place to manage the contractor workforce executing the $500M+ annual Bureau budget.  The VMO implemented the Microsoft Project Server 2010 solution (rebranded to iSchedule) and built the first IRM IT project portfolio report for the DOS Chief Information Officer.  Recognizing that “true projects” (Development-Modernize-Enhance: DME) only accounted for approximately 14% of the annual budget, the VMO developed the capability to capture the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities of the Bureau within the iSchedule solution; providing full visibility of the IT portfolio.  Never one to settle, the VMO is now aligning costs captured within iSchedule to Technology Business Management (TBM) principles to not just provide the CIO projects and activities in her portfolio, but also to understand how they align to Services her bureau provides. 


About the Speaker:


A Specialist Leader within the Deloitte Consulting Federal consulting practice, John has over 17 years of experience supporting federal, state, and commercial clients and 7 years prior experience as a logistics officer in the United States Marine Corps.  A certified Project Management Professional (PMP) since 2002, John also hold certification as a Primavera Consultant/Trainer and am a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) for Enterprise Project Management (EPM) using the Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 solution and a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) for Microsoft Project 2010. John has detailed Enterprise Program Management (EPM) implementation knowledge and experience with enterprise-wide software scheduling tools, large-scale program and project management office operations, large government program and acquisitions management and business process improvement. He has specific experience in development and management of large-scale (DoD Acquisition) Integrated Master Schedules, Integrated Master Plans, and all facets of developing and implementing enterprise project/program management policy, processes, and procedures.  John is currently supporting the Department of State Information Resource Management Bureau.

Discounts: $40 for early bird online registrants; $30 for students

Early Bird Online Registration - Pre-register and pay online during the early bird registration period to receive a $10 discount on registration.

  • With early registration, students will only pay $20; non-students pay only $40. 
  • Early bird registration ends at midnight the Wednesday prior to the Chapter meeting.
